Considering Doula Services?

My name is

Stephanie Hammond-Conte

and this is a bit about me and

who I am

Born in this city, I am a mother of 2 older children and have 2 grandbabies. I have been working with children & families for over 30 years. I was acting as a Doula before I knew what a Doula was. I come to the table with support, awareness, communication skills, a helping hand and 100% commitment to giving you the best birth and postpartum experience that is within our control.

I happily serve Nepean, Ottawa and the surrounding areas.

The Role of a Doula

A Doula is someone who supports, empowers, instills self belief in the women they care for, their families and their support systems. A Doula listens, encourages and reminds women what they are capable of. A Doula is the one who is there to help be your voice when you aren’t able to or can’t muster the words, is a champion who naturally jumps in to help and know exactly what you need. A Doula is someone you can trust to bring nurturing, love and compassion.

A Birth Doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to expecting parents before, during, and after childbirth.

A Postpartum Doula provides valuable support in the postpartum period by assisting new parents with emotional and physical recovery after birth, as well as providing guidance and education on newborn care. This may also include referrals to other healthcare professionals if needed. Postpartum Doulas offer encouragement and a listening ear during a time when emotions can be particularly raw.

The work of Doulas sets the foundation for women and families to build a strong society and make the world a better place.

“People will forget what you said,

will forget what you did

but they will never forget how you made them feel”.

You might feel like your motherhood journey has more questions than answers

What does my baby’s birth look like when I imagine my special day?

How can I move past feeling overwhelmed?

I am feeling alone and confused, what can I do?

Who can I talk to, who understands?

Where can we find support for my partner to best support me?

Your Experience, Your Voice

From the very beginning, our work together is centered around you, your values, your preferences, and your vision for birth and postpartum.

We’ll take time to explore what matters most to you, creating a plan that feels supportive, realistic, and aligned with how you want to experience this transition.

My role is to offer steady, knowledgeable support, to listen, guide, and provide evidence-informed information at the same time ensuring you feel confident in the decisions you’re making.

If at any point it feels difficult to speak up, I will gently advocate alongside you to help ensure your wishes are heard and respected.

You are never alone in this but you are always at the center of your experience.

Prenatal Services

Even if you’ve done this before, every birth and postpartum experience is different. You may be coming into this one with more awareness, and perhaps a clearer sense of what support you need, what you’d like to do differently, or where you felt stretched the first time.

With another child in the mix, your energy, time, and attention are already being shared. Having steady, experienced support can help create space for you to rest, recover, and feel more present, both with your new baby and your growing family.

Whether you’re looking for a different kind of birth experience, more support during postpartum, or simply an extra set of hands, this support is designed to meet you where you are without judgment, and with a deep respect for your experience. Prenatal visits are an important part of preparing for your birth and feeling confident going into the experience.

We’ll meet for two prenatal visits, where we take the time to explore your preferences for birth and create a plan that feels aligned with your values, including a thoughtful backup plan so you feel prepared for different possibilities.

These sessions are designed to help you feel informed, supported, and empowered as you approach your birth.

We’ll also go through simple, practical exercises that you and your partner can use during labour to feel more connected, supported, and confident in the moment. This is also a space to ask questions, talk through any concerns, and feel truly supported before your baby arrives.

Birth Support

Every client begins with a complimentary consultation, either in person or virtually which is a chance for us to connect, talk through your hopes for birth, and ensure this feels like the right fit.

If you choose to move forward, you’ll have ongoing support leading up to your birth. You can reach me whenever you need, whether by text, phone, or email for guidance, reassurance, or simply to check in.

When labour begins, I support you from early labour onward, offering comfort measures, natural pain relief techniques, and a steady, reassuring presence.

Whether you’re giving birth at home, in a hospital, or at a birthing centre, I will be by your side continuously supporting you and your partner through each stage, for as long as your labour takes.

After your baby(s) arrives, I remain with you for up to two hours, helping you settle, begin feeding, and transition into those first moments together.

In the rare event that I am unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances, a trusted and experienced backup doula will step in to ensure you continue to receive seamless, supportive care.

Day or night Postpartum Support

Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, every postpartum experience is different. I offer in-home support, during the day or overnight, in your home or hospital if needed to help you navigate this transition with more ease and confidence. This can be an overwhelming time, and you don’t have to do it alone. I’m here to provide steady, non-judgmental support, no matter what your circumstances look like. Having experienced postpartum depression myself, I understand how overwhelming this time can feel, and I offer support that is compassionate, informed, and free of judgment.

II also have experience supporting families with multiples, where extra hands and thoughtful support can make all the difference. Every visit is shaped around what you need that day, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Here are some of the areas I can help with:

  • Support for single babies or twins

  • Gentle guidance around infant sleep and newborn rhythms

  • Feeding support (breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or combination feeding)

  • Overnight care so you can rest and recover

  • Light meal prep, snacks, and hydration support

  • Help making sense of newborn behaviours and concerns

  • Emotional support and reassurance during this transition

  • Support for siblings (supported by my background in Early Childhood Education)

  • Light household help (laundry, tidying, small tasks)

  • Running occasional errands when needed

  • Sharing trusted resources and recommendations

Other Ways to Work With Me

Support doesn’t have to end after birth or postpartum care.

I also offer gentle, ongoing support through sleep education, small group circles that create space for learning, connection, and continued guidance as you move through early parenthood.

Sleep Education

If you’re feeling unsure about your baby’s sleep, I offer guidance through one on one consultation that is responsive, realistic, and rooted in understanding your baby’s development.

Together, we look at what’s happening, what’s normal, and how to support more rest for your family in a way that feels aligned and manageable.

Nurture Circles

My circles offer a supportive space to slow down, connect, and be held in community.

Through guided discussion, reflection, and gentle education rooted in nurture neuroscience, you’ll gain insight, reassurance, and connection with others walking a similar path.

Whether you’re looking for one-on-one support or a space to connect with others, there are different ways to continue feeling supported along the way.
